Japanese culture has had a big influence on my life because my maternal grandmother is Japanese. Before she passed she would come and visit twice a year bringing all sorts of little goodies with her. When I was younger she would bring packs of pokemon and yugioh cards, which of course I couldn't read because they were all in Japanese, and other treats for my sisters and me. Later on in life I went with my mother to bring my grandmother back to the states to take of her after a stroke.
When I went to Japan I really enjoyed myself even though I was there for a short amount of time. The ramen shops on multiple street corners, the Tokyo Hans department store with different assortment of items on every floor. I really enjoyed myself and always planned on going back.
I plan on going back to Japan when the Olympics go there in the summer of 2020. I always wanted to go to the olympics and I have been wanting to go back to Japan, and that allows me to accomplish both of those goals.
Learning Japanese not only allows me to connect with my heritage, it will allow me to at least communicate on a basic level when I one day visit Japan again.
